Man, 50s, dies in a workplace incident in Co Kerry as gardai launch investigation

A man in his late 50s has died following a workplace incident in Co Kerry.

Gardai were called to the scene at Greenane in Templenoe, Killarney, at around 10am on Thursday morning.

Despite emergency services rushing to the scene where the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

He is understood to have been working on a building site when he suffered a medical emergency.

The man's body was taken to Kerry University Hospital where a post mortem will take place in the coming days.

Gardai say their investigation is ongoing and will be guided by the results of the post mortem examination.

The Health and Safety Authority have been notified and will also conduct their own investigations.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Kenmare were alerted to an incident on Thursday 7th October, 2021 at approximately 10a.m. at Greenane, Templenoe, Killarney.

"Upon arrival of Gardaí, a man (late 50s) was deceased and his body was removed to Kerry University Hospital where a post mortem will take place in due course. This man was working at the premises and had a medical emergency.

"The Health and Safety Authority have been notified and will conduct their own investigations.

"Investigations ongoing and the results of the post mortem will determine the course of the investigation."

It comes as tributes have been paid to a popular dad-of-four who died after a farm accident last weekend.

Seamus Conroy passed away in hospital on Wednesday morning after the incident at his farm on the Tassagh Road outside Keady in Co Armagh on Saturday.

Ambulance services were rushed to the scene and Mr Conroy was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, Belfast Live reports.

It is believed that he may have been mixing slurry at the time of the incident.

The PSNI confirmed he later died in hospital and said his death is not being treated as suspicious.
