Man, 50s, dies after falling while climbing Carrauntoohill in Co Kerry

A man has fallen to his death while climbing Ireland's tallest mountain.

It is understood that the man who is aged in his 50s, died while climbing Carrauntoohill in the McGillycuddy Reeks, Co Kerry.

The tragic incident occurred at around midday on Saturday.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí are investigating a sudden death of a man on Carrauntoohil mountain Co Kerry at approximately 12midday, Saturday 11th May 2019.

Defence Forces brought in to help firefighters battle gorse blaze in Co Donegal  

"The man appears to have fallen, no other person was involved."

It is understood that the mans body will be taken to University Hospital Kerry in Tralee for a post-mortem examination.
