Man, 50s, arrested and charged over armed robbery at shop in Mallow, Co Cork

A man in his 50s has been arrested and charged in relation to the robbery of a shop in Mallow, Co Cork.

Staff at the premises in Ballydaheen were threatened by a man, who was armed with what is believed to have been a knife.

The frightening incident happened just after 6.30pm on Sunday, January 5.

The suspect demanded cash and then fled the scene with a sum of money.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí from Mallow, assisted by the Southern Region Dog Unit, carried out a search of the area and a man In 50s was arrested.

"The knife that was believed to have been used during the robbery was also recovered."

The man was brought to Mallow Garda Station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He has since been charged and is due to appear before Cork City District Court this morning, January 6, at 10.30am.
