Man, 50, to appear in court following fatal hit-and-run on Swords Road which left Gerard Whyte, 21, dead

A man is set to appear in court in connection to the fatal hit-and-run which saw the tragic death of Gerard Whyte.

21-year-old Whyte was hit by a truck which sped off following the incident.

The Ballymun man died after being rushed to Beaumont Hospital following the shocking events which happened on the Swords Road at the Collins Avenue Junction shortly after midnight on Friday.

A 50-year-old man was arrested by the gardai and will be appearing at the Dublin District Court (CCJ 2) on Monday morning.

The lorry involved in the incident has been recovered by the gardai.

A spokesman for the gardai said: “A 50-year-old man arrested by Gardaí investigating a fatal traffic collision on Swords Road, Dublin on 31/5/2019 remains in Garda custody and is expected to appear before a sitting on Dublin District Court (CCJ 2) Monday morning (3/6/2019) charged in connection with the case.”
