Man, 50, to appear in court following fatal hit-and-run in Dublin which left Gerard Whyte, 21, dead

A 50-year-old man will appear in court  tomorrow in connection to a fatal hit-and-run incident in Dublin last week.

Gerard Whyte, 21, from Ballymun, died after he was hit by a truck on the Swords Road at the Collins Avenue Junction shortly after midnight on Friday.

The truck driver failed to remain at the scene.

Mr Whyte died after being rushed to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin Live reports.

The 50-year-old man was later arrested by the gardai and will be appearing at the Dublin District Court (CCJ 2) on Monday morning.

The lorry involved in the incident has been recovered by the gardai.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana said: “A 50-year-old man arrested by Gardaí investigating a fatal traffic collision on Swords Road, Dublin on 31/5/2019 remains in Garda custody and is expected to appear before a sitting on Dublin District Court (CCJ 2) Monday morning (3/6/2019) charged in connection with the case.”
