Man, 50, dies suddenly at home in Merthyr Tydfil

A 50-year-old man has died unexpectedly at a house in Merthyr Tydfil on Saturday, police have confirmed.

South Wales Police were called to a property in Spring Street, Dowlais, at 8.10am Saturday morning, a force spokeswoman said. She said rumours he had been stabbed were "incorrect" and the man's death was not being treated as suspicious.

Officers attended the property with members of the Welsh Ambulance Service as well as an air ambulance unit but the man died at the scene.

The police spokeswoman said: "South Wales Police has been made aware of rumours circulating about the man having been stabbed; this is incorrect and the community should be reassured this is being treated as a sudden and unexplained death."

Inquiries are ongoing to determine what happened and the man's next of kin and the coroner have been informed.

Emergency services remain at the scene while initial enquiries are being completed.
