Man, 50, beaten to death over Rs 30 in Bijnor

BIJNOR: A 50-year-old grocery store owner died after he was allegedly beaten up badly by three people on Sunday for demanding Rs 30, which they had borrowed from him, police said.

The alleged murder took place on Saturday night when Bhupendra Kumar, his brother Yogendra and Aashi allegedly attacked the shopkeeper, Yashpal Singh (50), with batons and sharp objects for demanding Rs 30, which he had lent them earlier. Yashpal had a grocery shop in Tanda Dhaki village under Shivala Kalan police station.

When the accused didn't repay his money, despite asking several times, the victim went to their house on Saturday late evening to get back his money. That's when he was attacked, said the victim's family members.

Bijnor superintendent of police Dharamveer Singh said, "Injured Yashpal was brought to the police station by locals on Saturday evening. Based on the complaint given by him, we have lodged a case of 323 (thrashing) and 504 (insult to breach peace)."

"The victim was later admitted in the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries," added SP Bijnor. Based on the victim's brother's complaint, police also added IPC section 304 (causing death by negligence) in the FIR.

The SP said the accused are on the run. All of them belong to the same community and police teams have been deployed in the village to maintain law and order.
