A man has been arrested after a house fire in Sale.
Firefighters and the police were called to reports of a fire at a house on Sidmouth Road, in Ashton-upon-Mersey, on Thursday morning.
A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson.
A man was taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
He has since been discharged from hospital.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed there was nobody else in the house at the time.
Emergency services vehicles have been seen parked outside the property ever since.
Sniffer dogs and CSI officers could be seen carrying out investigative work inside.
Images taken from the scene show a blackened doorway and significant damage to the building.
A spokeswoman for GMP said: "At around 1.30am this morning, Thursday, February 27, 2020, police were called to reports of arson on Sidmouth Road, Sale.
"Emergency services attended and a 50-year old man was arrested on suspicion of arson before being taken to hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation.
"He has since been discharged from hospital and remains in custody.
"No-one else was present at the address at the time of the fire.
"There is significant damage to the property."
In a statement, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters from Stretford, Sale and Altrincham fire stations were called to the scene at 1.41am on Thursday.
A spokesman said: "We attended reports of a fire involving a terrace property.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put the fire out and ventilated the property."
