A man has died in hospital days after suffering major trauma in a crash with a lorry.
The man, a 48-year-old from Manchester, was unable to recover from injuries sustained in the early morning crash in West Lancashire.
He had been driving a Ford Ka when it crashed with a Volvo HGV on Liverpool Road, Rufford, at around 4.35am on Wednesday, August 18.

Police, paramedics and fire engines were all called to the crash and firefighters help free him from the vehicle before he was taken to Aintree Hospital in critical condition.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two fire engines from Tarleton and Ormskirk attended a road traffic collision involving a large goods vehicle and a car on Liverpool Road in Rufford.
“Firefighters extricated one casualty from the collision who was taken to hospital by ambulance.”
The driver of the HGV was uninjured and the road remained shut in both directions between Spark Lane and Sandy Lane, near the Rufford Arms pubs, throughout the morning as accident investigation works were carried out.
Sadly, the man died in hospital four days later.
Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
Sgt Martin Wilcock, of Lancashire Constabulary’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision itself or who has any information to get in touch.”
