
A man has been charged in relation to the alleged online grooming of a child in the Newcastle area.
Newcastle City Police commenced an investigation on Thursday following reports a 15-year-old girl had been sent messages of a sexual nature by a man who was known to her.
Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 45-year-old man at a home in Windale shortly before 7.30pm on Friday.
Police seized two mobile phones at the home which will undergo forensic examination.
The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with using a carriage service to menace/harass/offend, grooming a child for unlawful sexual activity and using a carriage service to groom under 16 years for sex.
He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Bail Court on Saturday.
