Man, 44, dead after horror car crash on M8 motorway at Shotts

A man has died after the car he was driving crashed through the central barrier and hit another car on the M8.

A 25-year-old was driving a blue Audi A4 between Junction 5 and 6 near Shotts when the vehicle collided with the barrier, crossing into the eastbound carriageway where it hit a Subari Imprezza car.

The driver and a 21-year old male passenger of the Audi were slightly injured however a 44-year-old male passenger died at the scene.

An ambulance helicopter, fire crews and police raced to the scene of the horror accident at around 3.30pm yesterday.

The 27- year-old male driver of the Subaru car was treated for slight injuries however his two female passengers aged 29 and 26 sustained serious injuries and are currently being treated within Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Hospital staff describe their conditions as serious but stable.

Sgt Jon Mochan at the Road Policing Complex at Helen Street, Glasgow is appealing for witnesses to this incident and also urges anyone with dash cam footage to contact police immediately via 101 quoting incident number 2953 of 27 July 2019.
