Man, 43, rushed to hospital after Paisley bus collision

A 43-year-old man was rushed to hospital yesterday after he was hit by a bus on a busy Paisley street.

The man was injured after he was struck by a McGill's bus traveling at low speed in the town's Causeyside Street just after midday.

Emergency crews raced to the scene at around 12.15pm as worried pedestrians looked on.

Police closed the road for more than five hours as an investigation into the accident was carried out.

The injured man was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

No criminal charges have been brought against the McGill's driver, who is understood to have alerted ambulance crews immediately and helped the stricken man.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "A pedestrian was injured after he was involved in a road traffic accident involving a bus on Paisley's Causeyside Street at around 12..15pm yesterday.

"The 43-year-old man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

"The road was closed for several hours."

McGill's praised the driver's quick thinking in helping the man and call for an ambulance.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm an incident involving one of our buses occurred on Wednesday afternoon. A man stepped in front of a vehicle travelling at very low speed and fell to the ground after colliding with it.

He added: “The driver immediately attended to the gentleman and also called the emergency services. Thankfully, no serious injuries were sustained, and the driver and vehicle were both cleared to return to service by the appropriate authorities.

"Our appreciation goes to passengers who were delayed and to the driver who responded to the incident in a calm and professional manner.”
