Man, 43, dead after collision involving van and pedestrian in Aberdare

A man has died after being hit by a van in Aberdare.

Police were called to the A4059 between the Trecynon roundabout and the Robertstown roundabout at 10.50pm on Saturday.

Officers said a black Ford Transit Custom van collided with a pedestrian on the southbound carriageway.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the 43-year-old man died at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

A 30-year-old man, the driver of the van, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and is in police custody.

The road was closed for several hours while investigations were carried out but it has since reopened.

A spokesman from South Wales Police said: "Anybody who may have witnessed the incident, anyone who may have dash camera footage or anyone who may have seen either the pedestrian or Ford Transit Custom van prior to the incident, should contact 101 and give reference 2100018269."
