Man, 42, died suddenly in bed after seizure

A man died in bed while sleeping alongside his partner after a sudden seizure.

Jason Callaghan, 42, from Ashton-in-Makerfield in Wigan, was staying with his longtime partner when he suffered the seizure.

The pair were asleep in bed at the time, heard Bolton Coroners Court on Tuesday as an inquest was opened into the man's death.

Mr Callaghan is believed to have fallen back asleep after the seizure and his partner later woke up to find him unresponsive on April 29.

Paramedics rushed to the scene in Masefield Road but the man was tragically pronounced dead shortly after.

Acute alcohol toxicity was found to be the cause of death by a post mortem.

Police did investigate the death, said Catherine Cundy, assistant coroner for Manchester West.

Ms Cundy told the court: "No suspicious circumstances have been identified. This was an investigation but it has now moved on to inquest."

The case will be reviewed by the coroner on August 11, when a date for a full inquest will likely be set.
