Man, 42, admits posing as a business owner and attempting to cash a £2,800 cheque

A 42-year-old man has been given a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to fraud by false representation.

Tasco Lambert, of Manilla Road, Birmingham, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, December 20.

Lambert had pleaded guilty to posing as a business owner and attempting to cash a cheque to the value of £2,800 in a bank in Mansfield.

The bank contacted the owner of the business account who stated that they had not given Lambert permission to withdraw the money.

The case was then referred to Action Fraud who passed the investigation on to Nottinghamshire Police.

Police Constable Nathan Staley, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Fraud can have a massive impact on people's lives and businesses. As a force we are committed to catching those responsible as soon as possible.

"This was a brilliant example of a bank using a strong process to detect fraudulent activity and notifying the appropriate service as soon as possible."

To report fraud, you must go to Action Fraud via their website here  https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ .
