Man, 41, dies after being hit by car on M8

A 41-year-old man has died after being hit by a car on the M8 motorway .

Emergency services were called to Junction 22 at the Plantation Interchange yesterday (March 4) at around 7.25pm following reports that a vehicle had collided with a pedestrian on the eastbound carriageway.

The victim, who has not been named, was walking on the busy road when he was struck by a Vauxhall Astra.

The 36-year-old driver of the Vauxhall Astra was uninjured but sadly the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The carriageway and Junction 1 on the M77 northbound has now reopened after being closed for a number of hours last night.

Sergeant Jon Mochan from Glasgow’s Road Policing Unit based at Helen Street said: “I am appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact us, or anyone who seen a man walking on the motorway, as they may have information that will assist our investigation.

"I am also keen to hear from any drivers who were on the road at the time who have dash-cam footage. This footage will also assist our ongoing enquiries into this crash.”

Anyone with information should contact Glasgow Road Policing Unit through 101 quoting reference number 3415 of 4th March.
