Man, 40s, dead after house fire where two people were rescued in Dublin

A man in his early 40s has tragically died in a house blaze where two people were rescued.

Firefighters received a 999 call at around 8.50am yesterday and were at the scene of the inferno at Sheepmoor Gardens in Blanchardstown within five minutes.

Four units from Dublin Fire Brigade attended and found an upstairs bedroom ablaze.

A spokesperson said: “Crews using breathing apparatus rescued two people from the house while other crews searched for a third person and fought the fire.

“Unfortunately, the body of the third person was found.”

Local Fine Gael councillor for Castleknock Ted Leddy said Sheepmoor residents were saddened by the death.

He told the Irish Mirror: “My sympathies go out to the family.

“The council will be available to help the family get emergency accommodation.”

DFB handed the scene over to gardai for an investigation, which is normal procedure after a deadly fire.

A Garda spokeswoman told the Irish Mirror: “Gardai were alerted to a house fire in Sheepmoor Gardens, Blanchardstown, yesterday.

“Gardai and emergency services attended. A male, aged in his early 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Investigations are ongoing, gardai said.
