Man, 40s, arrested after two men seriously injured in 'altercation' on Luas in Dublin city centre

A man in his 40s has been arrested after two men were injured in a serious altercation on the Luas in Dublin yesterday.

Two men, aged 40 and 47, were rushed to hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries in the incident.

The area was closed off for a short time before the Luas eventually began operating normally, Dublin Live reports.

A spokeswoman for An Garda Siochana said: "Two men, aged 40 and 47, were involved in an altercation which occurred on the Luas.

"One of the males received serious head injuries (non life threatening) in the assault and was taken to the Mater Hospital.

"The second male received serious injuries (non life threatening) and was taken to St James hospital. 

"One man, 40, was later arrested in relation to this assault and detained at Store Street garda station under Section 4 CJA, 1984.

"He was released in the early hours of this morning, Sunday, July 7, without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Investigations ongoing."
