A man in his 40s has been arrested after gardai seized a handgun in Co. Longford.
The gun was found after gardai stopped a car on suspicion of road traffic offences in Granard at around 2.40pm on Thursday.
Upon searching the vehicle, gardai also found ammunition, a balaclava and a holster.
The man was then taken to Granard garda station, where he is being questioned under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.
The firearm has been sent to the Ballistics unit for analysis, and the investigation is ongoing.
