Man, 40, died after taking prescription pills and smoking heroin, inquest hears

An inquest has opened into the death of a man from Bolton.

Dean Worthington, 40, was found collapsed at a friend's house on November 12 last year, police coroner's officer Julieann Hyde told Bolton Coroner's Court.

Emergency services attended at the home in Beech Avenue but Mr Worthington, of no fixed abode, was pronounced dead at 5.16pm.

Ms Hyde said: "He is known to have taken a number of prescription tablets and had smoked heroin the night before."

Following a post mortem, pathologist Dr Patrick Waugh recorded a provisional cause of death as combined drug toxicity.

Ms Hyde confirmed that there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Worthington's death.

Senior coroner for Manchester West, Timothy Brennand requested statements to be provided by Mr Worthington's GP, along with any community based agencies that treated him for drug addiction.

Mr Brennand adjourned the inquest until April 7.
