A man has died aged 38 just days after marrying the love of his life.
Cancer patient Simon Stevens died at Marie Curie Hospice Solihull, in West Midlands, on Sunday with his wife Lynne and mother Julie by his bedside, Birmingham Live reports.
His death was announced on a GoFundMe page set up in his name.
Ruth Price, who set up the fundraising page, posted: "Simon fell asleep peacefully yesterday evening with Lynne and his mum Julie by his side. He was just 38 years old. He will be deeply missed but his legacy will live on.
"My love and thoughts go to his family and friends. I’m truly heartbroken at losing an amazing friend. So brave and strong to the end, sleep tight Simon."
Simon and Lynne married in a ceremony at the hospice on October 26, surrounded by family and friends.
Best man Iain Prior and relatives watched as the couple from Yardley Wood exchanged vows and rings.
Simon, who was an RAF veteran, died from peritoneal mesothelioma which is caused by exposure to asbestos.
He became ill in January and was diagnosed with the disease in March.
Simon was cared for at Marie Curie Hospice with Lynne a constant by his side.
Lynne told BirminghamLive: "Simon was just a very fit and healthy man who became ill overnight. It was totally devastating.
"We have been together 14-and-a-half years. The wedding was originally planned to take place on October 28 but Simon became suddenly more ill on the Tuesday afternoon and the wedding was turned around in about four hours.
"It was special having our immediate family there. We exchanged vows and rings."
The couple own three greyhounds which they adopted from from rescue centre Daybreaks Trust, based on Coventry Road, Solihull.
They have helped raise over £1,000 for the trust.
Ruth, founder of Daybreaks, started Simon's GoFundMe page on his behalf.
His wish was to raise money for the group which will go towards purchasing premises as the current site is rented, with over £11,600 raised so far.
Ruth said on the page: "Simon requested that we set up a fundraiser in his name.
"The aim being to raise money to go towards helping future proof and secure the kennels in years to come.
"Daybreaks Trust and Kennels have been an important part of Simon's life - a place Simon said gave him 'a purpose in life'.
"The kennels are currently rented. Simon's wishes are for Daybreaks Trust to eventually own the site which would secure its future forever.
"This would mean that we can continue to rehome greyhounds, in turn changing the lives of not only the dogs and those who adopt but all the volunteers who are part of our Daybreaks Family.
"This will be a true legacy."
