A man has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a taxi driver in Bury.
The male driver, 23, was said to be left with serious facial injuries and cuts to his body following the 'vicious' knife attack in the town centre at around 4.15am on Saturday, January 8.
The taxi driver then tried to escape but was chased by the knifeman following the attack outside Natwest bank on The Rock, police said.
A 37-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the 'unprovoked attack'.
He remains in police custody for questioning.
Chief Inspector Jamie Collins, of GMP's Bury district, posted a tweet about the arrest this morning (January 15).
He said: "GMP officers have arrested a 37 year old male overnight who is now in police custody for questioning in relation to the Attempt Murder of a Taxi driver at Bury on the 8th January 2022."
Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Kay from GMP's Bury District said: "This was a vicious, unprovoked attack that has had a devastating effect on the victim and his family.
"I hope this arrest sends a strong message that this kind of violent behaviour will not be tolerated, and has no place in our communities.
