Following a police search in the area, believed to involve a helicopter and a large police presence in Bebington, a man was arrested in nearby Parkside Road on suspicion of theft of a vehicle.

People took to social media on Friday morning to ask what was behind the helicopter circling overhead, with one person posting: "Police helicopter flying low over our house for 10 minutes, just seen plain [clothed] car flying down our road, anyone know what's going on."

The post sparked dozens of comments by concerned local residents, including one person who said they'd been in the area as the car crashed into a wall, saying: "A minute earlier and it would've hit me!"

Others reported police dog handlers were seen in the area at the time as well as a large police presence.
