Man, 36, dies after crash in Newtown

A 36-year-old man died after a crash in Newtown.

The collision happened on the A489 bypass, which runs along the south of the town in Powys, at around 6.30pm on Sunday.

One of the drivers involved, a 36-year-old man, died as a result of the crash while another driver was also taken to hospital.

The road was closed for more than 12 hours and remains closed on Monday morning as accident investigation work is carried out.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: A 36-year-old man has died after a traffic collision on the Newtown bypass this evening (Sunday). His family have been informed.

"Another driver was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Both lanes of the A489 bypass are closed, with diversion signs in place.

"We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, which took place at around 6.30pm, to get in touch.
