Man, 36, appears in court following disturbance in Grange Villa

A man has appeared in court following a disturbance in a County Durham town.

Police were called to a public order incident in Queen Street, Grange Villa, near Chester-le-Street, at around 3.30am on Sunday.

George Grigg appeared before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court charged with one count of criminal damage and two charges of assaulting a police officer arising out of the incident.

Grigg pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault and a guilty to one count of criminal damage.

The 36-year-old, from Queen Street, in Grange Villa was remanded in custody after his appearance on Monday.

He is due to stand trial at the same court on September 25.
