A pedestrian has died after being struck by an ambulance in the early hours of this morning.
The 35-year-old man was killed in the crash, which happened at 3.20am today.
The ambulance involved was not responding to an emergency call, the South Central Ambulance Service has confirmed.
It happened on the northbound carriageway on the A34, between junctions for Peartree and Islip, and the pedestrian died at the scene.
The driver has been suspended from driving duties while an investigation is carried out.
The man's next of kin have been informed about his death.
In a statement, police said: "Thames Valley Police is investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the A34 in Oxfordshire.
"At around 3.20am today (29/11), the force received a report of a collision between an ambulance and a pedestrian on the northbound carriageway of the A34, between the junctions for Peartree and Islip.
"Officers attended the scene where sadly the pedestrian, a man aged 35, had died.
"Next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers.
"One lane of the A34 remains closed northbound at this time between Hinksey and Peartree while the road surface repairs are completed."
Mark Ainsworth, Director of Operations at South Central Ambulance Service, said: “On behalf of South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of the pedestrian who sadly died following a collision with one of our ambulances on the A34 early this morning.
"The ambulance was not travelling under emergency driving conditions at the time.
"The Trust and the ambulance crew are assisting Thames Valley Police with its investigation into the collision.
“It is normal practice in such circumstances for the driver of the vehicle to be suspended from driving duties whilst any external and internal investigations are undertaken.”
