A man who injured a police officer while trying to make off in a stolen car has been jailed. Paul Henry, 34, tried to flee after he was stopped on a cemetery in Warrington on Wednesday (August 24).
The police officer had been speaking to Henry through the driver’s side window, before Henry revved the engine and reversed the car when the officer tried to open the door, which scraped the officer's arm.

A search of the car saw a knife and metal bar being seized. Henry was charged and pleaded guilty to theft of a vehicle, possession of a knife, obstructing police, assault occasioning bodily harm on a police officer, driving while disqualified, driving with no insurance and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
Henry, of Rushton Close in Burtonwood and Westbrook, appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Thursday (August 25) and was sentenced to 34 weeks in prison.
Detective Sergeant David Schofield, of Warrington's local policing unit, said: “Henry was non-compliant when stopped by a police officer because he knew he was in a stolen car and had drug paraphernalia in his possession along with weapons. He was also disqualified from driving.
“He provided the officer with a false name and drove away at speed causing him to sustain an injury. Henry was located a short time later and officers investigating the case worked throughout the day to ensure he was charged.”
