Man, 34, dies in horror crash - five other people including two children injured

A man has died after a horrific crash in Bolton.

The smash happened at the junction of Long Causeway and Albert Road in Farnworth just before 11pm last night.

A black Fiat 500 and a silver Vauxhall Insignia collided with each other, police said.

The driver of the Fiat - a 34-year-old man - was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The force said five other people, aged between seven and 28, were treated for minor injuries.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said two children were taken to hospital, alongside three adults.

No arrests have been made.

Long Causeway was cordoned off by police last night and into the early hours of this morning as investigation work was carried out at the scene.

Pictures taken at the junction this morning showed a wall that had been badly damaged.

A traffic light also appeared to have been damaged in the crash.

A nearby resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, told the M.E.N : "I heard the bang from my house and just ran down, it was really loud.

"There were two cars involved and loads of cars around them.

"It looked really bad, some people were trying to help the people in the cars.

"There was a car stuck in the wall and another car in the junction."

Detectives are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

Police Constable Andrew Nicholson, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Sadly a man has lost his life in this collision and our thoughts remain with his loved ones at this difficult time.

"This incident happened at a busy junction and we are hopeful that there are a number of people who may have witnessed this collision and have dash cam footage of the incident or either of the cars leading up to it.

"If you have any information at all please do not hesitate to contact police."

A spokesperson for NWAS said: "Multiple resources went to Albert Road following reports of RTC on Albert Road, Farnworth, including four ambulances and an advanced paramedic.

"We received the 999. call at 22.54.

"We have taken two children and three adults to hospital."
