Man, 34, charged after staff threatened with axe at Toronto

A man will face court on Saturday in relation to two alleged hold-ups in Lake Macquarie, including one where staff were threatened with an axe.

The 34-year-old man was charged after police allege he threatened to stab staff members at a department store in Charlestown Square shopping centre on Sunday, August 16. The man left with a sum of money, but thankfully no staff were injured.

In a separate incident on Saturday, August 22, police said a man armed with an axe threatened staff at a Toronto supermarket, before leaving with a sum of money and cigarettes.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District commenced investigations into both robberies.

IN THE NEWS

Following inquiries, officers from Blacktown Police Area Command spoke with a man on Hill End Road, Doonside about 3.40pm on Friday.

The man allegedly ran from police and was arrested after a short chase with officers.

The man was taken to Blacktown Police Station where he was charged with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon and robbery.

The 34-year-old Mannering Park man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
