Man, 33, dies after battle with brain cancer

A young man died from a pneumonia complication after a battle with brain cancer.

Malcolm Lawrence died aged 33 while receiving end of life care for brain cancer, heard Bolton Coroners Court on Tuesday as an inquest was opened into his death.

Mr Lawrence was staying in The Spinney in Atherton, a mental health facility, at the time of his death on June 23.

He died 'in the presence of nurses', according to police coroners office Andrew Pickles.

After a post mortem, it was discovered that Mr Lawrence's cause of death was bronchopneumonia - a type of pneumonia that causes inflammation within the lungs.

Catherine Cundy, assistant coroner for Manchester West, said: "There is not believed to be any suspicious circumstances or third party involvement around the death."

The case will be reviewed by the coroner on September 1, when a date for a full inquest will likely be set.
