Matthew Jackson, defending, told the court a doctor's report into Alden's mental health should be available by the end of this month.

Judge Mark Horton said likely resolution of the case would be either a hospital order or treatment for Alden in the community, with stringent conditions agreed by Alden.

The judge adjourned the case to July 28 for a psychiatric report to be made.

He told Alden: "The report may not decide the case that day.

"It may well be further inquiries have to be made about what the court is able to do with you."

Alden was remanded in custody.
