Man, 31, dies following stabbing near Cardiff centre for rough sleepers

A man has died following a stabbing in Cardiff city centre, near a hostel for the homeless.

Although formal identification is yet to take place, police have confirmed the man is believed to be a 31-year-old local man, and his next of kin have been informed.

A 44-year-old man was arrested in the Splott area of Cardiff yesterday on suspicion of murder and he remains in custody.

Police are not searching for anyone else in connection with the man's death.

Officers were alerted to the stabbing around 9am on Tuesday, November 23rd and a cordon was placed around Hansen Street, Butetown, Cardiff.

Nine police vehicles and three ambulance vehicles, as well as CID and forensic officers, were spotted at the scene.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police can confirm a man has died following a stabbing in Hansen Street, Butetown, Cardiff, shortly after 9am yesterday morning (Tuesday, November 23)

"Although formal identification has not been carried out, he is believed to be a 31-year-old local man. Next of kin have been informed.

"A 44-year-old man was arrested in the Splott area of Cardiff yesterday on suspicion of murder and he remains in custody.

"Detectives are not looking for anybody else in connection with the man’s death.

"We thank the local community for their co-operation while enquiries continue and would urge anyone with information to contact police quoting occurrence *410667."
