Man, 31, admits assaulting woman and destroying her property

A Bolton man will be sentenced after admitting to assaulting a woman and destroying items belonging to her.

Christopher Kirby, of Crompton Close, appeared at Bolton Crown Court today (Tuesday March 23).

The 31-year-old pleaded not guilty to attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, but pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, following an incident on January 23.

On the same day, Kirby also admitted to destroying property belonging to the victim and driving an Audi A3 along Turton Road, Bromley Cross, while disqualified.

Appearing via link from Forest Bank Prison, Kirby said that he has completed an offending behaviour course while remanded in custody and asked for more help from the probation service.

He told Judge Graeme Smith: "Their attitude towards me doesn't give me a chance of help. It scares me because they just want to put me away in prison all the time.

"When's there going to be a point where I get the help that's needed?

"I've come in prison and I've done what I can, from behind bars, off my own back.

"I don't know what I can do to get the help that's needed. I've been crying out for it for years now."

Judge Smith replied: "I understand you're in a difficult position. The specific problem is that probation consider that you're actively misleading them".

Sentencing was adjourned until May 4, to allow a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
