Man, 30s, arrested after elderly man, 93, seriously assaulted in his home in Blackrock, Co Louth

A man has been arrested in connection with the serious assault of an elderly man in Co Louth.

Gardaí say that a man, aged 93, was assaulted in his home in at Sandy Lane, Blackrock, near Dundalk on Saturday afternoon.

The elderly man was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where his condition is now said to be stable.

A man in his 30s was arrested in the Dundalk area on Saturday night in connection with the incident.

He is currently detained at Dundalk Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

In a statement, a Garda spokesman said: "A 30-year-old man has been arrested by Gardaí investigating the serious assault of a 93-year-old man in Blackrock, Co Louth on 10th August 2019.

"The man was arrested in the Dundalk area late last night and is currently detained at Dundalk Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

"The injured man remains in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where his condition is understood to be stable.

"Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to contact them at the incident room in Dundalk Station.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station 042-9388400 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

"The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow."
