Man, 30s, arrested after assaulting taxi driver in driving seat as passengers watch on during early morning incident in Meath

A man in his 30s has been arrested after assaulting a taxi driver in the driving seat of his vehicle while passengers watched on in Meath.

The vicious thug opened the front door of the taxi and allegedly punched the helpless driver at around 2:15am on Market Square on Sunday morning.

The passengers, who had just hopped in the taxi for a fare, contacted Gardai who arrived at the incident quickly.

Thankfully the driver was not seriously injured during the incident and the attacker was arrested at the scene.

A spokesman for Gardai added: "Market square was busy at the time and gardai are aware that people present have the incident recorded on mobile phones.

"If you have any recordings can you give the gardai a call on 046-9021445."
