Man, 30, fights for life after being hit on head with traffic cone in London

A 30-year-old man is fighting for his life after being hit with a traffic cone in East London.

Police say the man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was hit with the base of the cone in Barking.

The Met said officers came upon a "disturbance" at around 8.30pm Saturday, My London reports.

"During the disturbance, the base of a traffic cone was thrown, hitting the victim and causing him to fall to the ground," a police statement continued.

"Officers administered first aid and the man was taken to hospital."

Police have not yet made an arrest as enquiries continued to identify the people involved - including the male who threw the object, the Met added.

In a tweet published today, Barking and Dagenham’s Metropolitan Police Service wrote: “At 8.30pm on Saturday, officers came across a disturbance in Station Approach, Barking.

“During the disturbance, the base of a traffic cone was thrown, hitting the victim and causing him to fall to the ground. Officers administered first aid and the man was taken to hospital.”

The service added: “The man, aged in his 30s, is in a critical condition. There has been no arrest.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved, including the male who threw the object."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.59pm yesterday (September 4) to reports of an assault on Station Parade, Barking.

"We sent an ambulance crew and two medics in cars. A man was treated at the scene and taken to a major trauma centre as a priority."
