UPDATE: An Aberdare man will face Maitland Local Court on Thursday after being charged following the death of Shane Mears at Cessnock tip.
The 30-year-old was arrested at a Lovedale property shortly before 10.30am on Wednesday before being taken to Cessnock Police Station.
Detectives executed a crime scene warrant at the property, where they seized a Toyota Landcruiser.
Police will allege in court that the 30-year-old man was driving the Toyota Landcruiser when he struck the 54-year-old Mr Mears - who was known to him - at the waste facility.
The man was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death-driver manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death and driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger as required.

EARLIER: A 30-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the death of a 54-year-old man at Cessnock Waste Management Centre on Sunday evening.
The 30-year-old was arrested at a Lovedale property shortly before 10.30am on Wednesday.
He was taken to Cessnock Police Station, where he was assisting police with their inquiries.
Detectives set up Strike Force Nargal to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
Inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
