A man charged with allegedly spitting an a police officer at Stroud and another allegedly found with 10kg of marijuana in a car are among the latest cases of people in trouble for breaching COVID-10 restrictions.
Police said an officer from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended a home at Berkley Street regarding a domestic violence-related incident on Wednesday morning.
Officers spoke to a 29-year-old man at the home, but were refused entry.
As the senior constable walked away, police said in a statement on Thursday, the 29-year-old allegedly spat on him.
The man was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic), and assault officer in execution of duty.
He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court.
It was the latest in a run of incidents across NSW involving people allegedly coughing or spitting at others.
It was the second such case in the Hunter Region this week, after a woman was charged for allegedly spitting at a police officer at Lake Macquarie on Tuesday.
Earlier this month, a $5000 fine was introduced as a possible penalty for people who cough on or spat at others.
Meanwhile, among the latest list of coronavirus-related fines, a 67-year-old woman received her second $1000 penalty after police found her at Gosford train station on Wednesday.
Police said she told officers she had travelled from Newcastle. Police said she did not have a reasonable excuse for the journey - she had previously been warned last Thursday and fined for the first time on Saturday.
On Wednesday afternoon, police fined a man $1000 for breaking COVID-19 restrictions and charged him with drug-related offences after they allegedly found him in a car containing 10kg of cannabis - believed to have a street value of $95,000 - at Tea Gardens.
Police said the 52-year-old also had a syringe containing methamphetamine - he allegedly told officers he had left his home to buy drugs.
Aside from the fine, he was charged with supply cannabis, two counts of drug possession and self-administer prohibited drug.
In another matter, a 48-year-old man driving a Ford Ranger on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Somersby was stopped on Wednesday.
Police checks showed he was issued a court attendance notice earlier this month for allegedly driving while his licence was suspended.
The Sydney man was handed a $1000 fine and told not to drive any further, police said.
They found him walking across the motorway about an hour later and gave him an infringement notice for not keeping to the far left or right side of the road as a pedestrian. They took him to Woy Woy train station.
