Man, 28, dies suddenly as desperate younger brother battled to save him

A devastated man has paid tribute to his 'boisterous' elder brother after he suddenly collapsed and died at home.

Luke Proctor's older brother, Paul , 28, died on November 12 after he became unwell at home.

Despite the best efforts of caring neighbours and friends performing CPR, Paul suffered a cardiac arrest and died.

The two St Helens brothers, who were "very close", had been looking after one another after the sad death of their mum, nan and dad.

Friend, Eric Wood, said the community have rallied around Luke and have set up a gofundme page to try and support him and help him cover costs for Paul's funeral.

Paying tribute to Paul, Luke said: "He was loud, boisterous, just generally a good laugh.

"He was always cracking a smile, you could never get him to shut up. We were really close. We lived together and worked together."

Paul and Luke worked together as chefs at Chapelford Farm, with Paul heading up the kitchen as Luke's boss.

Growing up, he said friends were always round at their house and Paul was very well-loved in the community.

Since his tragic death, Liverpool fan Luke said he's been touched by the amount of people who have approached him to offer their condolences after Paul suddenly died at home.

Luke, aged 25, said: "We were just at home watching TV and he went into cardiac arrest and had some sort of seizure."

Neighbour Lisa Walsh, a care home manager, was one of the people to give CPR to Paul to try and save his life.

She said: "Paul hadn't been well on the day and they'd been calling 111 for him.

"His brother was trying to get him an appointment at the doctors because he looked poorly, but they couldn't get him one. Then Luke said he was sat on the settee and Paul just collapsed.

"We all live on the same row and my son was best friends with Paul. Luke's girlfriend had come to get me and I found him doing CPR, but I took over."

She added: "We're just all so sad for Luke."

Paying tribute to Paul, Lisa said he "would do anything for anyone" and was a "lovely person".

"Luke and Paul were very, very close because there was only the two of them. They were more like best friends rather than brothers," she said.

Neighbour Eric, who set up the gofundme page, said: "Luke's basically now on his own. His mum and nan died about a year and a half to two years ago and it was Paul who kept them both together and kept everything going. Now Paul's passed, Luke's now on his own.

"That's one of the reasons I started the gofundme for him, even if it just pays for the flowers or something for the funeral.

"We said you don't need to worry about that, you've got people round here who will help you."

The response so far has been amazing, with hundreds of pounds already being donated.

Luke said: "It's been amazing, I can't thank everyone enough. It just shows how many people knew him and cared for him."
