Man, 28, died after he was 'either pushed or fell out of a moving car'

A man from Cardiff died after being pushed or falling out of a car while travelling, an inquest has heard.

On Wednesday an inquest was opened into the death of James Anthony Brynley Davies at Pontypridd Coroners' Court.

At the opening coroner Geraint Williams said Mr Davies, 28, was "either pushed or fell out of a moving car" on June 23 this year.

The name of the road where the incident occurred was not given with little information disclosed during the short hearing. Mr Williams added: "He was taken to the University Hospital of Wales where he was treated by intensive care considered as having a devastating brain injury.

"Despite the effort of surgeons they were unable to save his life and he died on June 24, 2020."

Following information provided by the hospital the cause of death has currently been accepted as a devastating traumatic brain injury.

The full inquest into the death of Mr Davies, from Grangetown, is set to take place in July next year.

A spokesperson for coroner Mr Williams said: "The South Wales Central Coroner’s Office would wish to clarify that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr Davies’s death is a coronial one and not an ongoing criminal investigation.

"Whilst the inquest scheduled for July next year will ultimately determine the circumstances surrounding his death, there is currently no evidence to suggest that the injuries leading to his death were caused by any third party involvement."
