Man, 28, arrested after Christmas presents worth thousands stolen from Staney home

A man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after Christmas presents were stolen from a County Durham house.

Officers were called after reports of a break-in at a home in Westfields, Stanley, on Sunday.

A number of gifts worth around £2,000 were stolen from the garage of the property between 4.15pm on December 21 and 7.40am on December 22.

Now, a 28-year-old man from Stanley was arrested in connection to the incident.

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: "Police were called at 8am on December 22 following the burglary, during which intruders had broken into a garage that was attached to a property in Westfields and stolen all of the victim’s children’s Christmas presents.

"A 28-year-old man from Stanley was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

"He was interviewed by officers and has been released under investigation."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 77 of December 22.
