Man, 27, dies after shopping centre car park fall as tributes flood in

A young man has died after falling from the roof of a multi storey car park at the Pyramids Shopping Centre.

Paramedics and police were called to Salisbury Street, in Birkenhead, at around 2.30pm on Monday after the young man was found injured.

Despite the work of emergency services, the 27-year-old died from his serious injuries a short time later.

Merseyside Police have confirmed that the man's family have been made aware of his tragic death.

An investigation is being carried out into the incident but officers say the man's death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

In a statement, the force said: "We can confirm following an earlier incident in Birkenhead, a 27-year-old man has sadly been pronounced dead.

"The man’s next of kin have been informed however he has not yet been formally identified.

"His death is currently being treated as unexplained although is not believed to be suspicious."

Tributes and condolences have already started pouring in online regarding the man and his family.

On Facebook, Christine Boyd said: "Thoughts with his family."

Laura Kennedy also said: "We were here just before this.

"So sad. God bless the person who has fallen."

In an earlier statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that officers were at the scene and a cordon had been put in place around the area.

They added: "We can confirm we are currently dealing with an incident in Birkenhead.

"We were contacted at 2.25pm today, Monday 24th August, following reports that a male had fallen from the roof of a multi-storey car park on Salisbury Street.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
