Man, 26, rushed to hospital after being found unconscious on Cork city road

A young man was rushed to hospital after being found unconscious on the side of a road in Cork city on Saturday night.

The man, 26, was found by a passerby on a street in Blackpool shortly after midnight on Saturday and was rushed to Cork University Hospital.

The young man remains in CUH at the moment where he is in a stable condition, CorkBeo reports.

Gardai are keeping an open mind in the investigation and are exploring all possibilities as to what may have happened the young man. There has been an upsurge in joyriding incidents on the northside and one theory Gardai are believed to be exploring is that the man could have been hit by a stolen car.

Gardai are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area between 11:30pm and 12:30am and have dashcam footage to contact them.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating all circumstances involving the discovery of an injured male (26) on Upper John Street, Saturday the 24th of August.

"The injured party was taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries."
