A man has been stabbed to death outside an apartment block in Cairns, with a woman known to him arrested by police.
The 25-year-old man was found dead outside the Manoora unit complex just before midnight on Friday, having been stabbed with a knife.
A 21-year-old Mareeba woman was located nearby while trying to leave the area and arrested. She is receiving treatment in Cairns Base Hospital and is yet to be charged.
Police allege the man and woman had earlier in the evening travelled from Trinity Beach to the unit complex in a taxi.
They are now appealing for more information.
Queensland Police Patrol Inspector Andrew Cowie said the weapon had been located at the scene and was being examined.
He also said there were witnesses to the incident, but wouldn't disclose the nature of the pair's relationship.
"We're in a developing investigation of course ... we want to make sure we have sufficient information about the people's movements," Insp Cowie told reporters on Saturday.
Insp Cowie said the unit was inhabited by the woman's family members.
