A man was found with serious head injuries after being assaulted in an Easington property.
Officers were called to Girven Terrace, Easington Lane, on Wednesday and found a man with serious but non-life-threatening head injuries inside the property.
Northumbria Police have increased patrols in the area but are reassuring residents there is no wider risk to the public.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers attended the scene where they found a 25-year-old man with serious but non-life-threatening head injuries.
“Enquiries into this incident are ongoing but the victim and offender are believed to be known to each other, with no wider risk to the public.
“Extra patrols are being carried out to offer community reassurance and anyone with concerns should approach an officer.
