Man, 25, died after taking painkillers, inquest hears

An inquest has opened into the death of a 25-year-old man from Salford.

Wesley Michael Gattens, who worked as a payroll clerk, was found dead at his home in Stanton Avenue, Kersal, on November 23 last year.

Police coroners officer Neil McCaffrey told Bolton Coroner's Court that police attended and found Mr Gattens unresponsive, on his bed.

He added: "There was evidence of medication at the scene."

A police investigation concluded that there were no suspicious circumstances or third party involvement.

Senior coroner for Manchester West, Timothy Brennand, told the court that the preliminary cause of death has been recorded as 'fentanyl toxicity'.

Mr Brennand added that Mr Gattens was not known to Greater Manchester Mental Health.

The inquest was adjourned until April 28.
