Man, 24, accused of attempted murder in Wirral village

A 24-year-old has appeared in court charged with attempted murder.

James Ross is alleged to have tried to murder Michael Ross at Eton Drive in Thornton Hough, Wirral.

Ross appeared at Sefton Magistrates' Court this morning via a video link from Rowan View Hospital in Maghull.

He wore shorts, a blue t-shirt and a grey hooded top as he sat before District Judge James Hatton.

Tom Hanlon prosecuted the case on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service and John Weate represented Ross.

A legal adviser told Ross: "The allegation before the court is an indictable only offence.

"That means it can only be dealt with at the crown court."

No plea was entered to the charge of attempted murder, which Ross is accused of committing on October 31 last year.

District Judge Hatton said: "I am quite content to proceed to send your case to the crown court sitting at Liverpool.

"You will appear there on July 7 this year at 9.45 in the morning."

Ross will remain at Rowan View Hospital under the mental health act until that date.
