Man, 23, dies after disturbance in street as police probe death as 'suspicious'

A 23-year-old man has died following a disturbance in the early hours of this morning in Motherwell.

At around 5.50am today (Sunday), police raced to the incident on Quarry Street, which led to the man's death.

Detectives are treating the death as suspicious and an investigation has been launched.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 5.50am on Sunday, 19 May 2019, police received a report of a disturbance in Quarry Street, Motherwell resulting in the death of a 23 year old man.

"Emergency services attended and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident. 

"Officers are treating the death as suspicious and a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course."
