Man, 22, stabbed in the back as he walked through town centre

A 22-year-old man was stabbed in the back while walking through St Helens town centre in the early hours of Saturday.

Police and paramedics were called to a property on Waterloo Street at around 3.40am on Saturday, May 22.

Inside the property they found a man with a puncture wound to his back and lacerations to his hands.

It is believed the victim had been walking through the town centre a short time earlier when he was attacked.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Merseyside Police is urging anyone who was in St Helens town centre between 3am and 3.40am on Saturday who may have witnessed anything to contact them.

Detective Inspector Jackie Guinness said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in St Helen town centre between 3am and 3.40am on Saturday who saw anything to contact us at they may have information which could assist with our enquiries.

“We believe the injured male walked along Barrow Street and Waterloo Street but it is not clear where the incident occurred and I would ask anyone who has CCTV, dash cam or mobile phone footage to check if they captured anything significant.”
