Man, 22, and boy, 16, both killed in crash in stolen car with woman seriously injured

A man and a teenage boy have tragically died in a car crash that has also left a woman seriously injured in North Yorkshire.

Police were called to reports a car had crashed on the A64 near Tadcaster at around 11.50pm on Monday.

The vehicle had veered off the carriageway, trapping the driver and two passengers, police said.

Sadly, the driver – a 22-year-old man – and the rear seat passenger – a 16-year-old boy – were pronounced dead.

The front seat passenger, a woman in her 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The car, a Vauxhall Insignia, was later reported stolen.

A statement put out by North Yorkshire Police said: "All three occupants are from the West Yorkshire area.

"No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.

"The carriageway was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident and a police investigation into the collision is ongoing.

"Anyone with information, including witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage, is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police.
